Oldschool Orks: Kommandos

Nothing says camouflage like wearing bright red jump suits, but this is the Grimdark where things are a little different...

Oldschool Orks: Mad boyz

Mad boyz are a classic unit from Space Marine and early 40k that have disappeared since the 4th edition codex - so like my Snakebite Boarboyz, I had to have some.

These guys are a motley unit, about 2 points cheaper than the average Boy (10 points vs 12 for all other clans) but at the cost of the Mad! special rule.

Oldschool Orks: Snakebite Boarboyz

One of the iconic Ork units missing for several 40k editions are the Boarboyz, so I had to have some for my 2nd edition army.

These guys were fun to paint, the only challenge being missing some arms and one of the back banner poles.

Oldschool Orks - Weirdboy

A short post today - after getting a pretty good copy of Dark Millenium on ebay with (most of) the psychic cards intact I decided I wanted a psyker in my Ork army to cast power vomit and 'ead banger.
I like the model, the jester outfit bells and staff - suitably bonkers.
I decided his hair and gloves would be flame coloured so he wasn't completely clownish, and did some OSL for his bug eye.

Thats it for him - next week (technically later this week) a brief break from 2nd ed orks for Dreadtober.

Oldschool Orks - Shokk Attack Gun & snotlings

I think the Shokk Attack Gun is one of the most iconic Ork weapons, and while I have never fielded one in my Kan Wall, I wanted one for my 2nd Ed army.

Oldschool Orks - 2nd Ed WarBuggy

My first 2nd edition Ork unit/figure: a war buggy.
2nd Edition Ork War Buggy - Left
Its funny - while I'm super keen (and/or nostalgic) for 2nd ed I have to admit that the minis can be very hit or miss. Some have that old school charm, and others like the war buggy are pretty ugly :)

Cunning plan: Oldhammer 40k 2nd Ed

Over the last year and a half I've been slowly working on a 2nd edition scheme with my cunning opponent.
As much as I enjoyed painting and playing my Imperial Knight, and my flyer, as 7th Ed evolves and rumours of 8th Ed float around I find myself more and more drawn to the 40k of the mid 90's.

Oldhammer impulse buy

Nostalgia is basically the main reason I am still into little painted mens.
Ironically I never actually played 40k until 2008 (being primarily a 2nd ed Blood Bowl player which was cheaper), but during the 90's would read through White Dwarf and drool over the 'Eavy Metal pictures and the battle reports, and most of all wanted a Space Wolves army of my own.
